  • All-around athlete at Ballard High: named All City in baseball and Honorable Mention All City in football and basketball in 1949-50.
  • Played professional baseball with minor league affiliates of Philadelphia and Baltimore from 1951-54 before deciding to make the Army his career.
  • Distinguished military career, 1955-75, many commendations.
  • Served as an advisor to John Wayne during the making of the movie “The Green Berets”.
  • Published many times in military publications.
