In 2008 we are sponsoring a second All-Class Alumni Music Benefit Concert on March 8, 2008 at 7:00PM in the Earl Kelly Performing Arts Center. Proceeds from this concert benefit the BHS Music Program which does not receive an operating fund from the School District and why we are sponsoring this fundraiser; however, despite this, it is a strong, growing program with excellent teachers and we ask you to sponsor, to participate and to attend. We are in the planning stages of the 8th Annual Ballard Night at the Mariners and a date will be chosen shortly. It always is a great evening of baseball and of being with fellow Ballard supporters.

On August 5, 2008, the 8th Annual Ballard High Golf Classic, the Vic Salvino Golf Tournament, will be held this year at a new location! We will be sponsoring the tournament at The Golf Club at Newcastle. The location is spectacular and the greens are great. Proceeds from the golf tournament this year will benefit the athletic program, a Certified Athletic Trainer, marching band, pep band and cheer squad. Last year over $84,000 was granted to all of the teams and funding paid for BHS to have a full-time athletic trainer. Normally high schools have to share a trainer. We can only continue to do these things if you sponsor and play in the tournament. More information will be forthcoming about the Golf Classic.

This year we intend to emphasize the BHS Foundation Endowment. We have over $130,000 in the Endowment now and have a goal of $1,000,000. We encourage you to make sure that the BHS Foundation is in your will and part of your planned giving. The BHS Foundation is not an endowed Foundation and must raise new funds for every project undertaken. The Endowment would ensure the life of the Foundation and the continued support to enrich the education of the students at Ballard High. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the Endowment Fund.

We also encourage you to get involved and volunteer your time and expertise by becoming a Board of Director. It not only is a tremendous, energetic group to work with, but seeing the results of the efforts of the Foundation at school and with the students, it is very rewarding. The Board is made up of alumni representing classes 1942-1992 plus community members. We are organized by committees and our goal is fundraising. Please consider joining us.

So as you can see, a very busy year is in place for 2008. I am honored to serve as the Foundation’s fourth President and need you to help me make this a record year. I grew up, worked and reside in Ballard, graduating from Ballard High in 1953. My children attended Ballard schools. Currently two of my granddaughters are attending Ballard High School. I am a very proud to be a Beaver!
